The applied management approach is based on continuous cover forestry and respect for the natural growth and regeneration processes of forests. It promotes the components, structures, and processes characteristic of natural forests, thereby improving species and structural diversity, variation in tree sizes and developmental stages, and a range of habitats, including tree-related habitats and deadwood.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:200,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In this context, NEIKER has established 24 study plots (with an 18-meter radius), 12 in coniferous plantations and 12 in eucalyptus plantations. The geolocation, height, and diameter at breast height (DBH) of all trees within each study plot have been recorded. Additionally, four subplots (2x2m) have been established within each plot to assess the coverage of vascular and non-vascular plants. Soil samples have also been collected from these subplots to analyze soil carbon stocks. Finally, in each plot, Wildlife Acoustics Song Meter recorders have been placed on a central tree at a height of 1.5 meters above the ground to monitor bird diversity using bioacoustics. The main advantage of acoustic monitoring is that the devices can be left in place and programmed to inspect regularly with high temporal resolution over long periods. LIFE URBASO specifically monitors breeding bird presence, so recordings are conducted in the spring.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:200,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Preliminary results indicate that coniferous plots have an average of 35 trees, while eucalyptus plantations have an average of 74. Bioacoustic indices show significantly lower bird species richness in eucalyptus plantations compared to coniferous stands.
